A Vollrath Year in Review
JANUARY Randy, Eleanor, Calvin & Rhea in Mexico. We had the good fortune to spend a couple of weeks away from the Canadian winter down in Mexico with our good friends Randy & Eleanor Foster.

Another good fortune to get away when Calvin spent a week visiting family & golfing in Arizona.


At the same time, Rhea got away to Quebec to celebrate the 50th birthday of her BFF Maryse Grégoire (and take a side trip to Jay Peak for some downhill skiing).

On May 10, Calvin released his 66th recording 'Me, Myself & I'. 16 new tunes composed for friends, events and several 'Gift-A-Tune' requests. Another good fortune saw us spend a week in the Rocky Mountains golfing and hanging with family.

On the 10th, Calvin judged the inaugural Prairie West Fiddle Contest in Camrose, AB and is happy to be returning in 2018.

Calvin was happy to return to the Montana State Fiddle Camp after being away for several years.

Calvin and Daniel Gervais were invited to perform with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra for their 'Symphony in the City' concert celebrating Canada 150. He was honoured to play his 'Fiddle Nation' medley alongside the orchestra. Catch the performance on YouTube.

Camp Calvin

Calvin & Rhea got to spend a week in beautiful Port Townsend for the 'Festival of American Fiddle Tunes'. What a magical week that was.


The 11th annual Camp Calvin was held in a new location, at Portage College right in St. Paul. Overall the move was a positive change and plans are already in place to do it again with a few improvements. Registrations are now open for July 22 - 26, 2018. www.campcalvin.ca.

And we invite you to start your camp experience by attending the Grand North American Old Time Fiddle Championship on July 20-22, 2018.

August proved to be the busiest month of the year.

It started with the inaugural dance at the Blueberry Bluegrass Festival in Stony Plain, AB with the Country Swing Band. And we'll be back in 2018!
Between festival shows, Calvin did a few shows with Russell deCarle at Mulhurst Bay, Stony Plain & Canmore, AB.

It was then off to the 20th annual John Arcand Fiddle Fest in Saskatoon, SK. We'll also be returning in 2018.


On August 15, we both participated in the 'Canadian Fiddle Project' in Sherwood Park, AB. A concert held as part of the Canada 150 celebrations.


Then it was off to eastern Canada for the CGMFA fiddle camp and the CGMFC in Valleyfield, PQ.

SEPTEMBER Sunday afternoon performance in fiddle park at the Lemelin site (formerly Duheme site). After a 1-yr hiatus, Calvin was pleased to be back judging the Pembroke Fiddle Contest. And this year, Rhea got to go.
OCTOBER Date night at the Winspear.

Calvin, along with Daniel Gervais, offered a Metis Fiddle Workshop in Edmonton as part of the National Arts Centre (NAC) Canada 150 Tour.

Following the workshop, we were invited to attend the National Arts Centre Orchestra's performance at the Winspear Centre.

NOVEMBER '2sday 2'nes' video production

November saw the production of the video lessons for the '2'sday '2'nes' Fiddle Lesson series which launches January 9, 2018. 6 new editions are being offered including one on 'Jam Tunes' & one on 'Metis Tunes'. Read all about it or sign up at www.calvinvollrath.com/2'day 2'nes'.

DECEMBER Christmas gopher Was mostly spent on Christmas preparations and enjoying the holiday season.

2'sday 2'nes launches on January 9, 2018. A 12-week online fiddle lesson program. For the low fee of $240 (that's $20/week), you get 2 video fiddle lessons with the accompanying sheet music, mp3, chord chart and some Cal Tips; tips to improve your bowing, sound, fiddling, etc. 9 editions to choose from in varying levels.
