I became interested in swing music in the early 1980’s when I joined a band called Clearwater, in Edmonton, Alberta. Until then, I had only played old time fiddle. It was a great opportunity to play with this band because they opened up my mind to many other styles of music. Then I started playing with other bands and we would play lots of Western Swing. Today, I still mainly play fiddle tunes but will throw in a swing tune or two into my show. After many requests for a swing album, here it is.

I had the treat of having two of my good buddies sit down and play on this album with me. Richard Chernesky, the guitar player from the Clearwater band and Freddie Pelletier.

I’ve written 6 tunes on this recording. Roddy Matthews is a fine fiddler and good friend from the region of Northumberland England that I met while performing in the Shetland Islands. He was very helpful in loading gear for us! While touring Sweden in the fall of 2003, I composed a tune but I don’t exactly remember where we were at the time. Jess Lee is one of my favorite singers in the world and hails from Edmonton Alberta. We have a swing on our deck that sits under a large willow tree in our back yard and in the summer I spend lots of time swinging under the willow tree. Highway 28 is the highway that goes right through my hometown of St. Paul Alberta. The Hope Slide was the largest earth and rockslide in the history of British Columbia. I composed this tune while teaching at the Pacific Fiddle College in Hope BC in March 2003. I hope you enjoy!!!
